Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using the StoryStride mobile application (the "App") and related services (together, the "Services"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1 Definitions
- "App"
- The StoryStride mobile application.
- "Services"
- The App and any related features, content, and functionality provided by StoryStride.
- "Content"
- All text, images, audio, video, tour information, and other materials available through the Services.
- "Free Tier"
- Access to the Services without a paid subscription, including a limited selection of tours and advertising.
- "Premium"
- Access to the full Services under a paid subscription plan.
- "User" / "you"
- Any person who accesses or uses the Services.
- "we", "us", "our"
- StoryStride.
2 About the Services
StoryStride is a walking tour application that guides users through locations featured in books, films, television shows, and other media.
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time without notice. We may also restrict access to some or all of the Services where necessary for maintenance, security, or operational reasons.
3 Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. By using the Services, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. If you are under the age required by applicable data protection laws in your jurisdiction, you must have parental or guardian consent.
4 License
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Services for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You must not:
- copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Services or Content;
- sell, lease, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code;
- interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Services.
5 User Obligations and Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Services only in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations.
You must not:
- use the Services for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems or networks;
- scrape, harvest, or extract data from the Services;
- impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation;
- use the Services in any manner that could harm, disable, or impair the Services.
6 Location Data
The Services may request access to your device location in order to:
- display your position on maps;
- enable navigation features;
- verify check-ins at tour locations.
Location data is processed only while the App is in use and in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your location data to third parties.
7 User Safety
The Services are intended for use in real-world environments, including public streets and spaces. You are solely responsible for your safety at all times.
You agree to:
- comply with all applicable traffic and pedestrian laws;
- remain aware of your surroundings;
- avoid using the Services in a manner that distracts you from hazards.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage arising from your use of the Services.
8 Content and Accuracy
Content is provided for informational, educational, and entertainment purposes only. While we make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, we do not warrant that any Content is complete, current, or error-free.
Locations, accessibility, and details may change over time. You acknowledge that any reliance on the Content is at your own risk.
9 Third-Party Services
The Services integrate with a number of third-party services, including mapping, hosting, content delivery, subscription management, and advertising providers. Your use of such third-party services is subject to their respective terms and policies.
We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, including their availability, accuracy, or practices.
10 Advertising
The Free Tier is supported by banner advertising served by Google AdMob. By using the Free Tier, you agree that advertising may be displayed.
On iOS, we will ask for your permission to use your advertising identifier for personalised ads via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework before any such tracking occurs. You may decline, and contextual ads will be shown instead. You may change this preference at any time in your device settings.
A paid subscription removes all advertising.
11 App Store Terms
If you download the App from a third-party platform (such as the Apple App Store or Google Play Store):
- these Terms are between you and StoryStride, not the platform provider;
- the platform provider is not responsible for the App or its content;
- the platform provider and its affiliates may enforce these Terms as third-party beneficiaries;
- your use of the App must comply with the applicable platform terms.
12 Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Services and Content are owned by or licensed to StoryStride. You are granted no rights other than those expressly set out in these Terms. Any unauthorised use of the Services or Content may violate intellectual property laws.
13 Free Tier and Premium Access
Free Tier
The App is available to download and use free of charge. Free Tier users have access to a limited selection of tours in each city, GPS check-ins, and core navigation functionality. Free Tier access is supported by advertising as described in section 10.
Premium
A paid subscription ("Premium") unlocks all tours across all cities, removes advertising, and provides access to the full badge and progress tracking system.
Tour availability
The specific tours available on the Free Tier are determined by us and may change from time to time. We do not guarantee that any particular tour will remain available on the Free Tier.
14 Subscriptions and Payments
Plans
Premium is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription. Current pricing is displayed at the point of purchase within the App. Prices are inclusive of applicable taxes where required by law.
Free trial
We may offer a free trial period for new subscribers. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, you will be charged the applicable subscription price. Only one free trial is available per Apple ID or Google account.
Billing
Subscriptions are billed through and managed by the relevant app store (Apple App Store or Google Play). Payment is charged to your app store account upon confirmation of purchase and at the start of each renewal period.
Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your app store account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Premium access until that date. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods except where required by applicable law.
Price changes
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. We will provide reasonable notice of any price increase before it takes effect. Continued use of Premium after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new price.
Existing subscribers
Where we increase annual pricing, we will endeavour to honour the price paid by existing subscribers for the duration of their current subscription term, subject to app store platform constraints.
15 Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account via the App. Upon deletion, your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription; you must cancel separately through your app store account settings.
16 Disclaimer of Warranties
The Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including:
- fitness for a particular purpose;
- accuracy or reliability;
- availability or uninterrupted access;
- absence of errors or harmful components.
17 Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, StoryStride shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or enjoyment.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
18 Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StoryStride from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising out of or related to:
- your use of the Services;
- your breach of these Terms;
- your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights.
19 Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time if you breach these Terms or where necessary for legal or operational reasons.
You may stop using the Services at any time. If your access is terminated due to a breach of these Terms, you are not entitled to a refund of any prepaid subscription fees.
20 Changes to the Services and Terms
We may update the Services or these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will be posted on storystride.app with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
21 Connectivity and Technical Requirements
The Services require internet access and a compatible device. We are not responsible for:
- network or connectivity issues;
- GPS inaccuracies;
- device incompatibility;
- data charges incurred by your mobile provider.
22 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
